Specification of Print .lrtemplate files

Is there a specification of .lrtemplate files I could use to programtically create some complex print templates?

I've never seen documentation for the contents of any of the various .lrtemplate files.  In the past, many of us have reversed-engineered their semantics by trail-and-error, generating the preset/template in the UI and looking at the .lrtemplate contents.
