Thumbnail previews in Import dialog box

Thumbnails take a very long time to display in the import dialog window. This is for NEF, JPG and MOV files. I have to wait for many minutes sometimes before they show up, in order to select them for import. Is anyone else facing the same issue?

You may have a malfunctioning card reader or camera card.

No the reader works fine. It just takes ages to show the thumbnails. Even when thumbnails do show up, if I scroll past some of them and then go back to them, at times it shows just grey sqaures for a while before generating them again

I also said the problem can be a malfunctioning camera card. And how do you know the reader works fine?

One odd behavior that has been around in Lightroom for a long time is that the thumbnails do not appear until you select a "Destination" in the right hand panel (for importing using the "Copy" or "Copy as DNG" modes). Make sure you select the destination straight away to avoid this little handgup.

And, Movie files have been known to affect imports.

Move the MOV files out to another folder (for MOV files only) before trying to import the raw & jpg files.
