Hi everyone,

I am having two issues with this new LrC version 9.3:

1. Every time I open LrC it starts to uptade the develop presets to XMP. How can I stop this? And why is this happening all the time?

2. When I try to import, I mean, when I click on the "Import" button, LrC crashes all the time!

Hi there,

We're sorry about the trouble with Lightroom Classic. Please ensure you have all available Windows updates installed on the computer.

You can try to reset the preferences of Lightroom using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2JSym5e

Please backup your presets prior to resetting the preferences.

Let us know how it goes!

Regards,

Nikunj

Thx! I just updated it to 9.4 and now importing works! But still the same issue with the presets...

Any comment from your side on this regard?

Hi,

Glad that Lightroom Classic is no longer crashing while importing images. Have you tried resetting the preferences of Lightroom to check if that helps?

You can also try removing all the presets and then re-importing them.

Your first question means there is something wrong with the install of LrC or there is something wrong with your hard drive (system) that LrC does not see the XMP Preset folder and files that is has already upgraded.

In the LrC preferences there is an Option to View, Go To,, Show, the Lr Develop Presets. It is on the Preset tab Where does that take you? The path for Windows is.

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings

Is that where you end up and what is in that folder?

Yes, that's the folder I ended up... I just updated to LrC 9.4 but this issue is still there...

Any other suggestion from your side?

"Every time I open LrC it starts to uptade the develop presets to XMP. How can I stop this? And why is this happening all the time?"

When LR starts, it looks for any presets in the old format (.lrtemplate) in the old presets folder, converts them to the new format (.xmp), and saves the converted preset in the new presets folder. Then, to remember that it converted a preset, it renames the old .lrtemplate file to have the prefix "~~".

However, if LR doesn't have write permission to the old presets folder, it won't be able to rename the .lrtemplate files, and the next time you start LR, it will try again.   So you need to check the permissions of the old presets folder. To find it, do Preferences > Presets > Show All Other Lightroom Presets. This will open File Explorer on the parent folder where Lightroom stores all its various presets (except the new .xmp develop presets).  The subfolder "Develop Presets" contains the old .lrtemplate presets.

Either change the permissions of that folder to allow write access, or move all the .lrtemplate files out of it to some other location.
