Actually you do not Upgrade your original LR 5 catalog to LR Classic 9.x.x.

LR Classic 9.x.x makes a Copy of your older LR catalog and does the upgrade on that copy. So in the end you will have 2 LR catalogs on your system. The Original, older version catalog, and a newer upgraded version that now works properly with the newer version of LR Classic.
