I'm trying to upgrade to Lightroom Classic 9.0 from Lightroom Classic 8.4.1. The 9.0 version says that it needs to upgrade my catalog. It tries, but then I get the following message:
"Lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the formant of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom."
I don't have another catalog. This is the only one I have with ~225,000 photos in it. Am I stuck at version 8.4.1?

Some users have reported that the catalog conversion gets stuck while gathering depth information. This needs to be read from the files which will typically be HEIC photos from an iPhone or DNG files converted from HEIC files. The process is meant to skip off-line photos while fetching the depth information and should update the catalog next time an external drive is re-connected. But this could be where things are stalling. It may be worth connecting any off-line device. One other user has reported this made a difference. This should be unrelated but may be worth a try. If you don’t have any of these file formats in your Lightroom Classic library Adobe may need you to share a copy of your catalog file for further investigation.

Adobe May be able to pinpoint a bug from shared catalogs. Thanks if you uploaded your files to Dropbox or similar sharing.
I dont know of immediate solutions but hopefully a fix will be forthcoming before the end of this month.
