1) Import the DNG file to the Catalog as you would any photo image file. (NOT a Preset Import)

2) Select the file and go to the Develop module

3) Click [ + ] to Create a Preset.

 

The DNG file is actually an image file that has been edited with a Preset, and this editing metadata saved into the DNG file.

When you import the DNG, Lightroom extracts the editing metadata, setting the Develop sliders as they were edited. You now save those edits as a Preset that you can use on other images.
