Why does the the adjustment brush hide behind the picture

Using Lightroom classsic 9.3 on a Mac.  `The adjustment brush has started going so it doesn't show where it is on the picture.  YOu just have to start brushing and guess where its brushes (though you can see it if you turn the  Mask Overlay on.  Other times the brush shows up on the picture fine.  Just can't work out why sometimes it shows, and sometimes it seems to go behind the picture.  Any views appreciated

Check the 'Show Edit Pins' setting at the bottom left of the picture. If you do not see it, then press the 'T' key to show the toolbar.
