Why won't LR Classic import my video files

I'm using the 10.2 release on a mac using Big Sur.

the files are on my desktop

They are .mov files 

I get the message that no video files were found.

The files are recognized by Quicktime and by Premiere, so, why?

There are helpful posts that talk about purging the video cache but that seems to be outdated advice and there is no longer any way that I can find to do that.

There are a number of workarounds using Terminal. Is that what I have to do?

WAIT! After about ten minutes it started to import. It has to be moved from my desktop to another drive. It is a large file, and so far it's about 1/4 in. It may load!
