Added photos don't show in Lightroom.

The photos I've just added to LIghtroom don't appear!!! When I search for them all I get is a black hole but if I try to add them again LR says they have already been added. What?!

Hey, @malinbring. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out. 

How many images were imported at once? Where are the original images stored, internal or external drive?

You can check the All Photos > Recently Imported tab to ascertain the number of images imported. 

While it should be updating at the same time, have you restarted Lightroom since the import?
