I have a large number (700+) photos that imported with "No capture date", and I need to change them.  When selecting more than one photo, Lightroom hangs and the only way out of it is to quit LR and restart.

Repro method:

1. Open Lightroom

2. Select two photos

3. Click on Info and then the pencil to adjust the capture date

4. Lightroom interface dims and no further actions can be taken

I've just tried it with 5 images, and there was no problem. Are you saying that even with only 2 images selected you still get the hang? Have you tried rebooting your system then trying again?

Yep, rebooted before posting.  Selecting two (or more) images and trying to change the capture date fails.

Thanks for validating it is just a problem on my end, though.

Do you get as far as entering the changed values, or does it hang even before that? What kind of change are you trying to make?

With mulitple images selected, after clicking the edit icon, the Lightroom screen dims like it has opened a dialog box, but there is nothing shown.  No chance to enter anything, and no way to cancel the operation.  The Lightroom menu bar still works, so I can select "Lightroom | Quit Lightroom".

I have a lot of scanned images that have no capture date, and are thus in the date tree as "No Date".  I want to edit the capture date so I can put them where they are supposed to be.

I tried resetting the prompts and dialogs, that didn't help either.

The interface still works for menu items when it is dimmed, so randomly I can choose "Photo > Edit Date & Time" while LR is dimmed and the change date/time dialog comes up and functions.

Weird...

Weird indeed. It might be worth trying to turn off the GPU setting in the Lightroom Preferences>Performance tab.

And if that doesn't improve things, it might be worth resetting the Lightroom preferences: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

Nope, didn't help.  I suppose the next step is to reinstall Lightroom.  Based on the absolute cluster that was the last time I did it, I'll look in to doing it manually with exiftool and bash.

Thanks for your help.
