I'm a Windows user. But it's my understanding that if your MacBook is using the M1 chip then there is no possibility to run an operating system old enough to install Lightroom 6. Lightroom 6 is a 64-bit application, but the installer is 32-bit and the newer Mac operating systems won't run it.

INSTALLATION GUIDE LIGHTROOM 6 ON macOS Catalina and Big Sur and NEW OS -

In order to use the purchased ADOBE program correctly on macOS Catalina, you need to execute on your macOS

1 - Catalina upgrades to the previous macOS Mojave operating system and then install the ADOBE 64-BIT software.

2- After installation and activation, perform the updates if they are available, then run the program and check if it works properly.

3 - After correct verification, please update the macOS operating system to the latest version of Catalina.

4 - After the update, ADOBE 64-BIT will work properly.

The 32-BIT version of the software will not be available for macOS Catalina, so when starting this procedure, make sure that you install the 64-BIT version and not the 32-BIT version.

The ADOBE installer at the start of the installation clearly informs in which version the software will be installed and the 64-BIT version of the program is well marked in the installation selection list.

If you have purchased a MAC computer with Catalina installed immediately and you do not have macOS Mojave system and the possibility of upgrading to an earlier version of the macOS operating system - it is required to reinstall the system on macOS Mojave and then you will be able to perform the above installation procedure of the ADOBE software on macOS Catalina.
