I have a number of images in my Lightroom folder that are in camera raw format as well as jpg. I need to save space and delete either of these formats, but which one does the Lightroom metadata act on?

I suppose everyone has their own opinion. If I had to choose between keeping raw or JPEG images I would always choose to keep the raw images. That is like keeping negatives in the old film days. It's possible to do so much more with the raw image. If space is becoming an issue a good alternative is to add an external hard drive. JPEG images can always be created when they are needed for e-mail or to send to a lab to be printed.  But personally I don't see a need to retain a collection of JPEG images.
