When images are imported do you then have them taking up space on the destination location?  If so, can you delete the images from the source location? When you choose delete image from device it is still there on the source, so where is it deleting from. All assistance really appreciated. 🥴

First of all, let's clarify. Are you referring to Lightroom or Lightroom Classic? Two different programs with different import strategies. What is the exact version number you are using?

It depends on which version of Lightroom you are use it, Cloud or Classic.

With the Cloud Based Lightroom, after the photos are imported and synced to the Cloud they can be deleted from the source location (but ir's always best to keep another back up I'd say).

Lightroom Classic references the photos at the source location in its Catalog, so the file has to remain there.

Which version re you using?
