Getting photos into Lightroom

I went from PC to iMac and used the migration to transfer files from PC to iMac. In the meantime I signed up for Lightroom on a monthly basis. On the left panel it has ALL my folders and photos in some of the folders. But others when accessed have the following message: "This folder does not contain editable files" then a photo icon with a + inside, below that "photos will appear here if added. Below that, "Show in Finder"

I have thought of two possible solutions, maybe!

ONE.  Have all my photos in folders on both of my external drives. What if I deleted the current copy of Lightroom and install a new copy then copy the individual folders into Lightroom.

TWO. Cancel my monthly subscription at the end of the term ( maybe I'm still on my 7 day trial). Then some time later, sign up again and copy the individual folders as in ONE.

any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a novice to iMac.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

"I signed up for Lightroom on a monthly basis"

A Lightroom sunscription is a 12mnth contract. If you cancel before the end of the 12month period you will be charged penalty fees.

"On the left panel it has ALL my folders and photos in some of the folders."

From this i deduce you are using Lightroom-Desktop v8,

AND you are looking at you photos in 'LOCAL' mode.

Correct?

"This folder does not contain editable files"

It just means what it says- There are no photo files (JPG, TIF, PSD, etc) in the folder selected in the Browse panel..

"Have all my photos in folders on both of my external drives."

Not a problem for Lightroom in LOCAL mode. You can view ALL connected drives and folders in the Browse panel.

"What if I deleted the current copy of Lightroom and install a new copy"

Will not make any difference to anything. The Lightroom app is simply 'looking at' your files on hard-drives in LOCAL mode.

"Cancel my monthly subscription at the end of the term ( maybe I'm still on my 7 day trial). Then some time later, sign up again"

Again, penalties apply if cancelled before the 12month renew date.

Lightroom will stop working if you cancel.

Signing up again will once again lock you into a new 12month contract (even if paid monthly)

CANCEL PENALTY FEES

"copy the individual folders as in ONE"

Nothing will change in Lightroom. You will then see the photos in one folder in the Browse panel of LOCAL mode.

"maybe I'm still on my 7 day trial"

After a 7 day trial ends you will automatically be subscribed to a 12month contract. If you do not want Lightroom you must cancel before day 14 ( 7-days trial + 7 days).

Mr. Cullen,
I haven’t digested your message yet but I was wondering if you know of
anyone who could help me in my home? I live in Eagle, Idaho.

Or someone who would be willing to do a phone call visit. I don’t believe
there’s a way to actually share the screen but there is a way using the
iPhone camera.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Raymond
