If I export to lightroom - how can I focus on bringing out detail

I like to adjust lighting in my images to bring out more detail. The problem with this lightroom ends up basically slowing down, lagging, delays, etc so bad that I cannot always get through a picture. I bet PS could probably do this better... but I havent used PS in years and long forgotten most of it. Is it possible to do just like in lightroom and paint an area in PS and then adjust settings (adjustment layers)??

Yes you can paint an edit with Lightroom masking. But that doesn't fix your problems with Lightroom's performance. What is your system setup and what version of Lightroom are you using?

Or you can create an adjustment layer in Ps and apply a mask to it. The results are very similar to using a mask in Lr.
