impossible to filter vertical (portrait) pictures

is there really no way to filter pictures by orientation - horizontal (landscape) / vertical (portrait)?

Assuming you are using the Lightroom Desktop app, then use the "Orientation" option when using the faceted search tool (click in the search bar to initiate). See screenshot:
