Lightroom 6 Quits unexpectedly

1. When i try to close LR 6 it quits unexpectedly  It tries to "optimixe" atalalog but then I find it NOT RESPONDING in Force Quit

Which dot release of Lightroom 6 are you using? Note that 6.14 is the latest version.

When exactly is Lightroom crashing? Does it crashes while using a specific tool or feature?

Hi; I am running stand alone LR6 on my IMAC

running CATALINA 10.15.6 with LR6 6.12. When I click on “updates” within LR  I get no response. It crashes (quit unexpectedly)  when I attempt to close, with or without backup. 

I have 256gb available on the drive with the catalog. My photos are on an external drive
