Lightroom CC migration from Lightroom 6 hangs

I just installed Lightroom CC on my Mac desktop.  I opened Lightroom and started the process to migrate Lightroom Catalog.  The process has been at 50% completed for an hour and appears to be hung.  I have been on hold at adobe support for over 1/2 hour.  I do not want to kill the process for fear of loosing all my pictures.  Any suggestions?
