Lightroom crop issue

New Here ,
Dec 18, 2025 Dec 18, 2025

Ok so I'm having an issue when I try to crop images in Lightroom (Not LRc). It's not smooth, in fact it's almost unusable.

My PC specs are as follows:
64GB RAM
i7 Processor

RTX 5080 16Gb
2.5 Tb disk space

Lightroom also seems to want to continully download the presets, even my own!

I've tried turning the GPU accelleration off but no difference between off and Full accelleration.

I really need this to work properly. I've even tried reducing the size of Lightroom on the screen but that makes no difference either. Other ai processor/GPU intensive apps work just fine.

All help appreciated.

Hi @Mesmer1966,

Thanks for the detailed description. Based on what you’re seeing, let’s narrow this down step by step.

• First, please reset Lightroom (cloud-based) preferences and test again

– Quit Lightroom

– Relaunch while holding Shift + Alt

– Confirm the reset when prompted

• Please check Lightroom Web

– Sign in at https://adobe.ly/4jgdpBt

– Try cropping the same photos there

– Let us know if cropping feels smooth on the web or shows similar lag

• We’ll need a short screen recording

– Capture how cropping behaves (the lag you’re describing)

– Also show the preset re-downloading behavior if possible

• Please also share your System Info

– In Lightroom, go to Help > System Info

– Copy and paste it into your reply

Once we have the screen recording and system info, we can check this with the product team, especially since you’re already seeing no change with GPU acceleration toggled.

Thanks for your patience, and we’ll take it from there once we have those details.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

Hey, @Mesmer1966. Thanks for sharing the system info. I am unsure what version of the OS you are working with.

Operating system: Windows 6
OS Version: Windows 8 Pro (2009)

Please update the version of Windows you are working on and check if that resolves the issue.

Thanks!

Ok, so Lightroom is mis-reporting the OS. That in itself is quite a problem!
This is the output from DxDiag showing that I'm running Windows 11.

To make resolving of this easier when in the crop section of Lightroom if I select a "custom Crop aspect" i.e. not one of the preset crop aspects then it becomes almost unusable. Cropping becomes staggered and completely inaccurate.

Thanks for sharing the updates and detailed logs. Please attempt to clean up installation files and related logs.

Before proceeding, ensure that you have all the data backed up locally or in the cloud.

You can log on to Lightroom Web (https://adobe.ly/3LUKpiM) to check and confirm everything is synced.

Try these steps:

  • Go to the following location

    C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom CC
    or
    Press Windows + R & type in the following - %localappdata%\Adobe\Lightroom CC\Data

    SameerK_0-1686343217595.png
  • You'll find a folder inside it with a long cryptic string of numbers and letters (for example: d1a4f88d2b534c7d91022136fd182532). Open that folder.
  • In the folder, delete or move out all the files named Managed Catalog.[anything]. Also, delete the Previews.db file
  • Then, head to the Creative Cloud desktop app and uninstall Lightroom.

After this, we'll clean up the GPU logs before reinstalling Lightroom. The GPU info & Logs location on Windows is %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw. A shortcut to get to this folder on Windows is:

  • Press the Windows + R
  • Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw

    SameerK_0-1684329421513.png

  • Rename the GPU & Logs folder in this directory by adding .old at the end. (GPU.old & Logs.old)
  • Restart the machine and install Lightroom from the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Let me know how it goes from here.

Thanks!

Sameer K
