Lightroom Mobile thumbnails showing up as solid colors

New Here ,
Jan 06, 2024 Jan 06, 2024

I primarily use Lightroom Classic on my Mac, but I have some collections synced across the Cloud.  When I open Lightroom Mobile (iOS), the collections show up, but certain thumbnails are showing up as solid colors.  (Not all the same color -- it looks almost like it's taking the most common color in the picture.) If I tap on the thumnail to open the picture, the picture is there.  I've tried editing the picture slightly, just to force it to re-save, but it still happens.  It's only occurring with JPEGs (no RAW), but it's not happening with all JPEGs.  The only other connection I can find is that it seems more likely with older pictures (stuff from about 10 years ago or more) -- but again, not ALL older pictures.  I've attached a few screenshots so you can see what I'm talking about.  I've searched the forums and the web and can't find any other references to this happening for anyone else, but it's been happening consistently for me as long as I've used Lightroom Mobile (even after device replacements).

What version of Lightroom Classic are you using?

If you sign into your same account at https://lightroom.adobe.com/ do you see the same thumbnail issue?

And do you think LR Classic was the app that likely uploaded these images?

(If you are not sure, one way to check is to open an image in the LR web app (the URL above), tap 'i' to go to Info view, and see below the camera details what LR app performed the upload.

Also, in the iOS app, if you open an image and then tap the cloud icon, 'Get Original' or "Photo - Original" will display if the iOS app uploaded the image.  Classic only uploads Smart Previews, and that's all that is available for the iOS to fetch from cloud storage.)

Thanks for the reply!  Yes, if I go to the web version of Lightroom, the same photos have that same issue with the thumbnails. The collections were assembled and uploaded in Lightroom Classic.  I'm running the latest version of Classic now, but I couldn't tell you what version I was running when the pictures were first uploaded. (It's been an annoyance for years, and every now and then I'll search the forums and see if someone else posted and solved it, but no luck.).  In the app, it does say "Smart Preview" under "Local" and "Cloud Backup."

Hi again @alans49844305

Since Lightroom Web shows the same issue, this isn't a bug where Lightroom Mobile is showing the wrong thing, but indicates that what Lightroom Classic synced seems wrong or possibly corrupt.

Does it help to disable and re-enable "Sync with Lightroom" for affected collections, ensuring your first have the updated version of Classic installed?

If that's doesn't help, we should move this thread to the correct forums for Lightroom Classic, in case anyone there can help with this.
