Lightroom not reading external hard drive files in library

Lightroom not reading my external hard drive catalog in my library any longer.

I have to locate on my hard drive and reimport. Upon reimport files are coming in sideways, cropped funny and randomly five starred.

You posted in the Lightroom cloud focused forum. As such, there is no "local catalog" for you to attach. 

If you are manipulating catalogs, then you are referencing Lightroom Classic. As such, you should post the question in the Lightroom Classic forum. I would suggest including more information.
