Make remove selection, switch to another image, all changes are reverted on first image

Explorer ,
Nov 17, 2025 Nov 17, 2025

Using Lightroom Desktop.

  1. Select the remove tool (only "Use Gen AI" and "Show overlay on hover" enabled)
  2. Drawing with the brush, but do not click the remove option in the panel yet.  Currently you've only painted with the brush.
  3. Switch to a different image in your gallery
  4. Switch back to the first image

Expected:  Imaage is the same as it was before, with no move operation having been done.
Result:  All edits and alterations have been removed from the image.

They are saved in edit history, luckily, but this was really frustrating.  Note, I had already done a number of remove operations the other day on this image, if that makes any difference.

Hi @matthew_5332, thanks for reaching out!
I tried this on my end but couldn’t reproduce the issue. Could you let us know which version of Lightroom you’re using? If you’re able to share a quick screen recording, that would be super helpful too.
Thanks so much!
Alek

Thanks for the update. I'll help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Lightroom from Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

Have you recently updated Lightroom or the Windows OS? Try using Lightroom Web (https://adobe.ly/40Dz11t) temporarily to check if the remove tool works as expected. Some other features won't be available on Lightroom Web.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
