Hi everyone,

I have never used Lightroom but I have acces to it with my Adobe license. So I figure I would give it a try.

However when I start Lightroom (I have never used it with my account so I have no precedent storage or configuration) the "Import photo" is not available (it is in grey). When I search on File, "Add pictures" is also in grey.

I have checked, Lightroom is included in my license pack, so I should have access. I have deinstalled then reinstalled it, and also log out/log in but it still doesn't work.

Does anyone have encouter the same problem?

Thank you.

If your license is corporate or education based, known as a Federated license, it may not have access to 'Services' which means access to the Lightroom Cloud storage.  Without access to services, the [Add Photos] button will not be active on the Lightroom Desktop version (currently 4.4) You can contact your license administrator at your organization and ask to have services enabled on your instance.

If this is not possible for you then I would check your Creative Cloud Desktop App for the possibility of installing Lightroom Classic (currently 10.4) which does not requre any cloud storage to function fully.

Hello,

Yes my license is corporate. However I do have some files stored on the Adobe Cloud so it looks like I have access to the cloud included in my license ?

If I understand correctly, with Lightroom I cannot work on pictures on my computer, only on those that I put on Adobe Cloud. And with Lightroom Classic I can work directly from pictures stored in my computer ?

Thank you for your quick answer!

Cloud storage of synced documents and image storage are two subtley different types of storage. I would check with your Adobe License Admin to see if they can flip the switch for you.

Your understanding is correct. Lightroom uploads and works from the cloud but can be configured to work from disk as well - but the cloud component is essentioal. Classic works from your local disk.

Okay thank you very much ! It's clearer now. I will see if the cloud for image storage is included with my license but in the meantime I will use Lightroom Classic.

Thanks again !

I have a premium subscription to all Adobe Creative Cloud apps through school and as of late all apps have been appearing that I only have a basic subscription. I mostly use Lightroom (not Lightroom Classic) for photo editing and am unable to do this now as some actions cannot be done without the premium subscription.

Any advice on why this may be happening and what to do about it would be greatly appreciated.

P.s. I've tried deleting then re-downloading Lightroom and Creative Cloud around seven times so I don't think that is going to work.

Thanks.

In addition, it only appears to be Lightroom that is affected by this. I also use Adobe Fresco often and it still seems fine.

Some educational plans do not include cloud services. This may be why Lightroom doesn't work for you. Lightroom is a cloud service. Check with your school's IT department and find out what kind of plan you have. You will need an individual account to use Lightroom.
