P: Lightroom on Android crashes on Pixel devices

Explorer ,
Jul 25, 2025 Jul 25, 2025

I have a pixel 9 Pro XL and every time I open Lightroom it either crashes or I can open a single picture and then I get the circle and then the app either freezes or crashes again.

I have updated Android and tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Lightroom app several times. I have cleared the cache and storage and the same thing happens.

This has been happening for weeks I was hoping an update would fix it.

Hey, @Awesome_contributor5C94. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out. I checked your account, and I found an active subscription.

Please share more details, such as the exact version of Lightroom, operating system details, and video recordings of what you see.

Try keeping the device in Flight Mode & without internet when you launch Lightroom.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

No need to shoot a video. This is all it's doing. Circling airplane mode and regular mode. Once in awhile the pictures will come up and then when I click on one it just crashes the app.

@Sameer K

This is all it's doing.  It keeps Circling in airplane mode and regular mode. Once in a while the pictures in my gallery will come up and then when I click on one it just circles then crashes the app.

Uninstall reinstall does not help.

Version is 10.4.4

Hey, @Awesome_contributor5C94. The horizontal battery icon in the screenshots indicates that you're working on Android 16, which is still in Beta. Troubleshooting this further may not help. Please wait for the official support for Android 16 to arrive.

Thanks!

I am sorry for the confusion! Over the weekend, I realized Pixel devices have already got Android 16, and non-Pixel Android devices are receiving builds of Android 16 Dev-Beta.

Please do two screen record videos when you use Edit in LR and Add to LR from the Google Photos app, and another instance of Lightroom right after you restart your device. Feel free to share the video here, or with me in the direct message conversation from my profile.

As I mentioned is all it does when I open Lightroom.  Once in a while I can get to the gallery and then this happens when I try to open a picture.

This is all it does.  A spinning circle.

After I power off and restart.  Same thing.

Just noticed there was an update on the play store today.  Did the update and Lightroom still does not work on my pixel 9 xl pro.  It does not even open.  It's a dark screen with a spinning circle.

This has been going on for weeks now.   Can anyone help?

I tried to uninstall reinstall.  But it did not work.  I have cleared the cache and memory of the app before uninstall and reinstall.

The app just continues to show this black screen with a spinning circle.

Hey, @Awesome_contributor5C94. Thanks for the mention. We've recently released Lightroom 10.5 via the Google Play Store. Did updating the app help?

I've sent you a direct message to help you further.

Thanks!

Hi!

I've been using Lightroom Mobile on my Google Pixel 6 Pro for a long time, but after switching to the Pixel 8 Pro, I can no longer use the app with the same Android version (Android 16 QPR1 - BP41.250725.006).

After installing the app, I can log in, but it doesn't sync my files. If I try to edit a photo, the app crashes.

After one crash, I can't open the app anymore.
If I manage to open it, all I see is an infinite loading screen with a spinning circle.

What can I do?

I have already tried reinstalling the app after deleting the cache and restarting the phone.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @nova_4440

Sorry to hear Lightroom Mobile is crashing on your new phone. Thanks for already trying to reinstall and clear the cache. That’s a great first step. To help us dig deeper, could you please share a few details:

  • How much RAM is available on your device?

  • How much free storage space do you currently have on your Pixel 8 Pro?

  • Does your device meet all the system requirements mentioned here?

For the syncing issue, I’d also suggest trying on a different network (for example, a mobile hotspot) to rule out connection-related problems.

Once we have these details, we’ll be able to guide you better.

Regards,

Srishti

Hi Srishti, nice to meet you!

The available RAM is ~3.1 GB before opening LR.

After opening LR, it's ~2.7 GB.

Free space: 48.11 GB.

Yes, the device meets the requirements:

[12 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, Android 16].

I tried switching to the 4G network, but it's still the same. I uploaded a screenshot showing what the 'Lightroom' page looks like. Importing photos doesn't work either.

Hi @Awesome_contributor5C94 @nova_4440,

Thanks for all the details and screenshots. We’re checking with the product team regarding this crash on Pixel devices running Android 16. To help us narrow it down:

  • Did Lightroom Mobile work fine before upgrading to Android 16, and the crashes only started after the upgrade?

  • Please update to the latest release, v10.5.2, from the Google Play Store and let us know if you still see the same behavior.

Your feedback will be helpful to us.

Best,

Anshul Saini

Hi Anshul, nice to meet you too!

I'm currently using the latest release (10.5.2), but it isn't working. It does the same thing.

A few days ago, I was using the app on a Google Pixel 6 Pro with the same version of Android 16 without any problems. This issue has been occurring on my new Pixel 8 Pro, and I've seen other people using the Pixel 9 Pro encounter the same problem, so it seems that there is an issue with newer models.

My Pixel 8 Pro updated to A16 during the initial setup process (I got the device three days ago), so unfortunately I can't answer whether it worked before updating.

Hey Anshul,

I am also facing the same issue on my pixel 8 pro.

I have updated the app from play Store with latest update but it's still not working.

Same story here. Pixel 9 Pro. Android 16, LR mobile 10.5.4. App crashes when start editing local photo from "Galery" view. The "Lightroom" view doesn't show anything.
