Hi Team,

I just imported a new NEFX file, generated by NIKON Z8 and NX Studio with a size of 16152 x 11008 pixel. When I open the picture in the development tool the size is reduced by LrC to 8256 x 5504 pixel. So I can't work with the new generated pixel shift images from the Z8. Instead if a work withg an exported TIF file it works. It seems to be that LrC can't work with the new NEFX files.

Regards

Ulrich Blancke

Greetings,

Support for the Pixel-shift files, now available after the firmware upgrade on the Nikon Z-8, is currently limited to Camera Raw 16.1.1, which was released in mid-January.  The Lightroom Clients will see support in their next update. Your workaround for these files at this time is to import them into Camera Raw, and export them as a DNG, and that DNG will be useable in the Lightroom clients until release.

Nikon just released the ability to create 180 MP images using pixel shifting on the Z8 firmware. The images are first combined using NIkon software and then imported as NEFX images into Lightroom Classis v13.1. Lightroom recognizes the images but then crops the images to fit the 8256x5504 image size from a 'normal' image shot on the Z8. This needs to be fixed to allow the full image to be seen and edited in Lightroom. The same thing happens in Camera Raw for Photoshop v24.7.2.

Upgraded Nikon z8 firmware to 2.0. When importing the new files into LRC, the thumbnails do not show an image until you click on it. Then the thumbnail image remains.

The NEFX file produced by a focus shift image is castrated by the software. This also applies to Photoshop so it may a CR issue.

The top file is a regular NEF raw file from one of the files used in the focus shift session. 8256x5504 pxnef rAWDSC_0130.jpg and the bottom is a compiled focus shift 32 images nefx file created by the Nikon NX studio software and then imported into LRC. CLEARLY there is an issue here. 8256x5504 px. NIKON NX studio reports the Focus Shift nefx file to be 16512x11008 in size nefx CHOPPEDDSC_0129_merged.jpg
