The "by date" tree menu in the photos panel collapses automatically in some situations, such as this:

  1.  Browse to a specific day. For best results, use a date old enough to require you to click "view all".
  2.  Mark a photo as rejected.
  3.  Turn on a filter to only show rejected photos.
  4.  Select all photos in the grid view and delete them. This causes the "by date" tree to collapse.

When duplicating a photo, the "by date" tree menu thing on the left collapses automatically.

Steps to reproduce:

  1.  Browse to photos on a specific day via the "by date" thing in the photo browser. For best results, use an old date that you need to click "view all" to see.
  2.  Right-click on a photo and duplicate it. The "by date" collapses.
