rename ignores some files

Up to date lightroom classic.  New issue.

In Library mode, I have selected all the files via contr-A.  I menu library-rename;  I select the rename preset I always have used.  rename proceeds.  but scroll down and there are some files that are not renamed.   These are all nikon nef files shot same event, same cards.

work around was to convert to dng.  Then was able to rename them all as a group so they could have a sequence.
