Saving multiple variants from Photoshop back to Lightroom CC

I tried posting this in the Photoshop group without success, so maybe someone here can help me.

So, I'm working in Lightroom CC (not Classic), and I select the option to "Edit in Photoshop". While in Photoshop, I create several variants, each of which I would like to save back to Lightroom. I can't find any way to do this, having tried "Save a Copy", or multiple saves. It seems that the last version I save from Photoshop is the only one that makes it back to Lightroom. Is there any way to accomplish this, short of launching multiple, sequential edit sessions from Lightroom back to Photoshop? Thanks in advance!

I think that's just the way it works. I'm sure there must be an underlying logic but I'm not sure it's obvious.
