Some AI edits need to be recomputed error in Lr 8.3 Local

Hi all,  I use Lr (NOT Classic) locally with an external drive – my photos are not stored in the Cloud, and I'm on the latest version of MacOS 15.4.1.

After downloading the latest update last week (8.3), every time I open Lr, I get an error message that says "Some AI edits need to be recomputed." When I click Update, it generates new edits and I basically lose all my work / previous edit I had made. I have not made a single change to my set up. The only change was updating to 8.3.

Expected behavior: make edits to a photos using the remove tool, heal tool etc.. quit Lr, when I re-open Lr, the edits are there, just like I left them.

This problem existed in previous versions of Lr, then it all worked perfectly in 8.2 (not sure about 8.1), and broke again in 8.3.

The only fix was to re-install 8.2.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Posting this here hoping it's investigated as a bug and addressed in 8.4.

Thank you.

I have the same problem with LRC 14.3. No error messages when starting the software, but several times I have to update some AI settings.

Hi @Victor28525563byjd! Welcome to the community!

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with Lightroom. Could you tell us a bit more about your workflow? If you're doing healing edits after using an AI-based mask, the app might ask you to recompute the AI edits. Could you share a screenshot of the error message and any relevant panels?

Hi @gagiodam! Your issue seems different since you're using Lightroom Classic. For support, I'd recommend posting in the LrC board.

Thanks so much to both of you!

Alek

Hi @Aleke! In some cases I did healing edits after AI remove, but in others, I just had 2 AI edits on the same pictures and the error message popped up anyway. Regardless, this problem is not happening on 8.2 with the same workflows, photos and edits. So the problem is not with the edits, it's with Lr's ability to save my edits without having to recompute after closing Lr.

Here's how to repro: Open Lr, work in Local environment (not CLoud, see screenshot) with an external drive, edit a photo including healing and/or AI remove, finish your work, quit Lr. When I re-open Lr, blue pop up says : "Some AI edits need to be recomputed" and when I clikc Update to recompute, the results are different from what I had finalized before closing. Which means I have to re-work the entire photo again.

Hey @Victor28525563byjd! Thanks for sharing your workflow. Unfortunately, I couldn't reproduce the issue on my end.

I'm using a Windows machine, so this might be a Mac-specific problem. Could you share your System Info with us? You can find it in Photoshop under Help > System Info. Just copy the info to a text file and attach it to your response, or share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or another file-sharing platform.

Thanks a bunch!

Alek

Hi Aleke! I can try to do this later. For now:

  • MacOS 15.4.1.
  • M1 Macbook Pro.
  • Problematic Version of Lr: 8.3 (I reverted to 8.2 which works perfectly fine)

Thanks again!

I have the same problem and I learned not to click on update.

However, with 8.3 this message became extremely annoying, because I can't even go to another photo with the keyboard. I have to manually click either the X or update.

Adobe needs to fix this annoyance ASAP!!!
