Was editing on my ipad and got “missing settings” issue but that’s not even the problem

I was editing a photo on my ipad, when out of nowhere it locked the edits and claimed I had missing settings from "iPad". Usually I would know how to fix that, however the circumstances of this occasion make it tricky. It claimed I had missing edits from my ipad, but I was on the ipad, and I hadn't edited it from any other device. It's saying I'm missing information... from the device that IM ON. I have no idea what caused it and it's bricked my photo unless I'm willing to reset it, but I'd prefer not to as I've made a couple hours worth of edits on it
