I know that this isn't an Lr CC issue, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has been through this...
I purchased a WD My Cloud NAS to use as photo storage. In theory it's pretty cool. The NAS drive mounts up as a drive letter and you can access it from any network. That's freaking cool.
The problem is, that when I have Lr open for a few minutes, I get a blue screen. It's most likely a driver issue on the WD side. I was just hoping that someone might have already worked the issue or one similar and could tell me what they found.
Thanks!

I have a WD NAS storage as well, and it is pretty cool.
However, bear in mind (just in case you're not aware) that your catelogue cannot be on a network storage system. It must be either on your internal HD or external (but internal is better). Photos can be stored there of course, as Lightroom can be linked to this.
I haven't had the problem you've mentioned.

To tell you the truth, I have no idea where the Lightroom CC catalogue resides. But I'm using the NAS in accordance with the instructions here Lightroom CC preferences to store originals on NAS.
I know where the catalogue for Lightroom CC Classic is, but I'm not currently using that application.

Note that this option stores a copy of all your originals on the NAS drive. It does not store your originals. With Lightroom CC, those are in the cloud and not on your local drive. So you basically create a backup of all your cloud files this way. The crashing is undoubtedly a problem with the WD NAS driver getting overly stressed as Lightroom CC just uses standard system calls to access these files.
Do note that storing a copy of the files locally is NOT a good backup solution. If by accident you delete a file from Lightroom CC, it WILL also get deleted from the local storage almost immediately. There is no good backup solution for Lightroom CC.

Thanks Jao. Storing a copy of the originals to a local mirrored NAS is just one of three aspects of my back up strategy. I agree that this issue is caused by the WD driver. I'm still waiting to hear back from WD on the problem.
If you're correct in thinking that Lr CC is stressing the driver, I wonder if there's a way to QoS the calls to the NAS...

Update: This isn't ground breaking, but after clean booting (only system processes running) it still blue screens.
I have however, found that turning off syncing prevents the system halts... So it's something with the interaction between Lr and WD for sure.
I'll post back for posterity's sake if I ever hear from WD on my ticket.
