Why is Lightroom is changing the Created, Modified and Added Dates of my files?

Why does the movement of a simple edit slider cause Lightroom 7.0 to change the Created, Modified and Added Dates of my image files? It is not changing the file, theses edits are not saved back to the file.

Any guidance appreciated.

Are you using Local Mode or Cloud Mode?
What is the format of the file?

My original question was about a jpg. It is doing the same for dng files.

Where is Lightroom storing the edits for jpg and dng files? It is not in the files as the edits are not visible when opened in macOS Preview and I would not expect it to be modifying my originals.

For an ORF file an xmp file has been saved, which is to be expected, and the ORF file dates have not changed.

Again, are you using Local Mode or Cloud Mode?

If Cloud Mode, I would expect that to happen as Edits are stored in the file. Each time you edit, that edit is saved back into the original file, and the dates are updated.  This is expected behavior for all non raw files including DNG.

I would not expect them to be visible in Mac Preview as it cannot interpret Lightroom Edit settings.

Your ORF Files should get an XMP file saved next to them in the folder. This XMP file would contain your edits, metadata, etc.
