Working on shared Lightroom Project on Lightroom Classic

As the title says, a colleague shared a project via Lightroom, but I'd like to work on it via Lightroom Classic. Is it possible? Are the original raw files necessary?

No, and I don't think it's too cruel to describe project sharing as Cloudy thinking for an fundamentally-Classic workflow. You'd need the raw files, and even then it would be awkward to get your adjustments into your colleague's Cloudy Lightroom.

What do you mean it would be awkward? In the sense that a Cloud-based shared workflow is not intended for heavy/multiple modifications?

You get raw files and work on them in Classic. Now try getting the adjustments into Cloudy Lightroom.

In Classic you could save your adjustments as xmp files, and I assume you're familiar with how to use them to get adjustments into another Classic catalogue. But you can't do that with Cloudy because its raw files are in the cloud and there's no way to import the xmps on their own. What you'd have to do is delete those raw files from Cloudy, and import them again with the xmps. That's not a serious workflow. You might as well bite the bullet and use Cloudy for the project.
