My Lr keeps shutting down when I use the select subject option, please make an autosave so if and when this occurs I don't lose my work.

Lightroom already does auto save. Your problem is not a lack of auto save, but Lightroom crashing. You should ask for help with that in the 'Discussions' part of the Lightroom ecosystem forum.
