Strange bug on iPad: the search functions totally ignores the folder names. Here are two screenshots illustrating the bug:An album called xTestFolderSearch containing 10 pictures:... and yet the result for the search of the folders name “xTestFolderSearch” yields nothing 😮

This is probably as designed. A folder is just something that you can use to organise your albums. It does not contain images by itself and so its name is not included in searches.

This looks strange. The most important feature referring to an image or image set must be its folder, don’t you think? Being the date, location or subject, I assume that key element is almost every time used in the folder name.

Some people might name their folder “2016 Vacation in Hawaï”, “2018-06-12 ModelNam”, “Job for this client”, “Wedding ThosePeople”. Don’t you agree THIS is the most important field to search for?

You misunderstand what a folder in Lightroom CC really is. It is not a physical folder like the ones on your computer hard disk. It is also not a physical folder on the Adobe server. The name is misleading. A better name would have been ‘Album Set’, because that is all it is: a way to organise albums.

Again: “You’re using it wrong” ??? Really? Ok, I’ll rephrase:

This looks strange. The most important feature referring to an image or image set must be its ALbUM, don’t you think? Being the date, location or subject, I assume that key element is almost every time used in the folder name.

Some people might name their ALBUM “2016 Vacation in Hawaï”, “2018-06-12 ModelNam”, “Job for this client”, “Wedding ThosePeople”. Don’t you agree THIS is the most important field to search for?

By the way, in my screenshot, those are indeed albums, my bad (or collections, if you prefer). But still. The search feature totally ignores the albums. You cannot search for a specific album or for the pictures contained in a album.

Ah, sorry. I should have zoomed in to look at your screenshots more closely and not just have read the text and the title of the thread. You aren’t using folders to search. A folder can be used to hierarchically organise your albums (see screenshot). You are only using albums and you are searching on album name. I agree that it would make sense if you could do that. I would consider this a feature request, not a bug report.

Indeed, my Albums are synced down from desktop, whereas I keep the directly imported (through SD card) pictures in a Folder. That’s the only way I found to keep smart previews and real raws (and counting in the 20 Go) separates.

Can a mod please change the title with “album” instead of folder so this bug can be assessed and solved?

Technically it's a feature that hasn't reached mobile yet. The album name search was added to the desktop a few months ago but hasn't made it over to the mobile apps yet. It's definitely one I'd like to see added though.

Can this bug be solved, please? It’s really annoying to to be able to search for a folder. Especially as you refuse to sync keywords!!

The album name search is the most important search, because almost nobody is entering keywords for each picture. And the Sensei is a nice feature but absolutely useless if you search a specific album. And even folders names should be searchable but that has lower priority. In general all features we have in LR CC desktop should be available in mobile versions as well.

Indeed! Sensei is good but only as good as an AI can get. There are so many cases where AI or even real human intelligence won’t help:

will it be able to recognize a country or location juste based on a sunset? No
A bird spieces where specialist struggle to identify it?
A specific shooting or model?
A sport event amongst all the ones you’ve shouted?

The list is endless and those are examples that came up on me in a fraction of a second.

Please allow search option for finding albums. There should be an option to not just sort the albums but also to search for album names so we can find an album like we can a collection in lightroom Classic. This should be possible in lightroom mobile and lightroom desktop. It’s too difficult to find a group of images rather than one specific image. I can then find an image but I have no way of knowing how to get to the collection it is in. So there should also be an option to when you are looking at an individual image to see which collection it is in and go there. This could be done in a ... menu to the image. Option Gero go to album and then it could show a list of the albums it is in. And the. It should take you to the album and continue showing that image on the screen in that album in the grid but at the point in the album where that image is show. I know this is two different ideas but they all center around the same thing: finding albums. Two different ways to find an album. I think both should be in there.

Rikk, I know Adobe has a strange idea of what’s supposed to be a bug and what’s by design, but do you feel ok saying a search engine ignoring folder names is a deliberate choice and not a bug ? Would you a customer in the eyes and say it’s how it’s supposed to work ?

Those names are basically the only text fields in the entire software environment that could be used in a search. How is someone supposed to find the album “Hawaii 2012” or “Shooting ModelName” ? If not, how do you think people use albums ? Or how are we supposed to use them? Please tell us.

After writing this in suggestions, the page said it was read only so I will post here.
I heavily rely on folder names for searching. Searching by image name is important but I need to search by album/folder name as well. I see in other threads that other users want this as well. It could be automatic or we could choose a  “folder names” toggle. If It is available, I’ve not been able to find it. Thank you.

This was implemented in Classic

and supported by @Victoria Bampton LR Queen

When will Adobe acknowledge this as a major design flaw and not a simple "Idea"?

Not being able to search a folder makes no sens, there is really no rational explanation to why it would NOT be needed.

I'm surprised that this thread was started in 2018 yet it is still not possible to find an album using search on mobile. I don't name each individual photo as they are in a labelled album, yet there's no search function for this key piece of metadata? Please fix.
