Backing up RAW files as a catalog and retaining edits when restoring

I'm in the UK visiting family and doing lots of travelling. I'm using my MacBook to process in Lightroom and then upload photos to my website. I would like to know if there is a way to backup all my travel images (RAW files) and retain the edits? I know I can backup a folder as a catalog to save my RAW files and then restore if necessary. However, when I open the backed up catalog in 'Pictures,' My RAW files have no edits which makes sense because they are RAW files. My question is - If I were to restore this catalog, would the edits then appear so I can export as Jpegs? I have heard of some 'horror stories' where the restored catalog is missing all the edits requiring much processing before exporting.

Advice / suggestions much appreciated!
