If using Lightroom Classic write the metadata to file.
Start by exporting an unedited raw file as DNG.
Import the new DNG into the catalog.
Adjust the slider settings as required
From the menu choose: Metadata >> Save Metadata to File
For good measure you could also choose:
Metadata >> Update DNG Preview & Metadata
Go to the folder containing the DNG file and send to your friend.

Things to consider-
1. Are you applying a Preset to a photo before exporting it as a DNG?
2. What Lightroom (Cloud/Mobile) version are they using to Import the DNG?
3. Are your clients Importing the DNG then 'Saving' the Develop adjustments to a Preset?

Hi 99jon,
I thought I understood that it was simpler than you describe.
eg. any (reset) raw photo in Lr-Classic could have one Preset applied, then go directly to Export as DNG, and the 'edit' metadata is automatically 'embedded' in the DNG.
I just tested an .NEF image + Preset, Export as DNG new file- This new file Imports to Lr-Classic with the edits showing. Then 'Save a Preset'. Works for me!
