Taking my first photography class.
Just opened LR for the first time an hour ago. Have been trying to get past step 1 in the lesson (creating a catalog). Losing patience.
Lesson includes creating a catalog. Video shows instructor opening LR and immediately getting a dialog to open or create a catalog. Mine doesn't do that. The 5+ help pages I've Googled say I should click File > New Catalog. Mine doesn't do that either.
I'm sure I'm missing something incredibly obvious, but I just can't see it.
I have version 2.3
How do I create a catalog?
Also in watching various tutorials on LR I'm seeing a menu area in the upper-right of the screen that has choices for "Library | Develop | Map | Book | Slideshow | Print " and others. I don't see this on my LR. I've tried going under the "View" and "Window" menus looking for toolbars that might be turned off, but it's slim pickins under those menus (most everything is disabled) and nothing looks like it will help. Maybe I'm in some kind of weird mode or something?
Thank you for your patience and assistance

There are two different Lightroom applications. You are watching tutorials for Lightroom Classic, but you are working in Lightroom. I know it's very confusing, and you are not the first person to make this mistake. Check this page out and see if it helps.

Thanks very much! I was assuming there was only Lightroom and that this "Lightroom Classic" was just a reference to an earlier version of Lightroom. I went back to my CC package manager, and scrolled way, way down past Lightroom and finally found Lightroom Classic. I'm all set now and working away on assignment #1.
