Keep camera profile on import (iPad)

Hi!

When I import raw files to LR CC on my iPad they seem to ditch the profile that was set in my camera. (I.e: set to BW in camera, turns color in iPad) .I can still access each individual photo and set the camera profile, however this is somewhat annoying. Is there any way to set up LR to keep the camera profile as default?

Workflow:

- Importing raw from SD using lightning adapter to Photos on iPad

- Importing to LR

Unfortunately, there isn't. Since every camera maker creates their own unique raw format, Lightroom is intentionally designed NOT to read in-camera settings. If you want a black-and-white image straight from the camera then it will be necessary for you to take it in JPEG mode because then all of those settings will be "baked" into the image file itself. If you're shooting raw then you'll have to use the black-and-white tools in Lightroom to create your black-and-white image.

Thank you for taking the time Jim, but I can not imagine that is the case.

The intuitive way to do this would be to interpret the raw as the user set it up in camera (why else be able to) and then intentionally switch to a ”neutral” profile in LR should one want to disregard the camera settings - as a point of entry for further editing.

I know I was able to do this back in the day in LR on my desktop. That is - choosing wether the default should be retaining camera profile or using an Adobe one.

Also, LR CC on my iPad is perfectly able to use the camera profile if I manually select it (Profile submenu), then e.g. Fuji Acros, a nice BW film simulation). Just seems counter intuitive to have to switch the pictures shot in that mode on camera as a manual operation.

Thanks Rikk,

So even though LR supports the camera profile in the new profile menu: Lightroom CC April Update – Profiles, Presets, and More! « Julieanne Kost's Blog

...It will not be able to use it as default for further editing after import?

Example workflow:

1. Shoot with BW (e.g. Fuji Acros) profile on camera

2. Import raw to LR

3. LR converts to Adobe Color on import, and no longer shows as BW

4. Enter Profile menu and manually switch to Fuji Acros - picture now returns to as on camera

I’m pretty sure that back in my 1DIV days I could set up LR to retain the camera setting as an outset, saving time and energy when editing large sets. Am I wrong, or has this changed from the old classic desktop versions?

EDIT: I see that this was called “Camera Calibration” in the older versions, and could only be set as the same for an entire import(?)

Lightroom Classic CC can be set this way (to alter the Profile at import) but Lightroom CC clients cannot.
