When will Lightroom support native HEIC/HEIF support? Currently it converts the photos in my phone to JPEG. For a product geared towards mobile users, this seems to be an oversight.
Hi ericb,
Yes, you are right, while adding images in Lightroom mobile it will convert the HEIF images into jpeg format so that you can at least edit your images. Our team still investigating a fix on this issue. You can follow the above feedback link for more updates.

Yes but surely you have known about this file type for some time. Meanwhile, more and more users sail away from Adobe Island. It really is appalling.

Hi Nick,
That's not really true... According to the most recent (record) Creative Cloud adoption numbers, more and more users actually continue signing up.
That is a separate issue from full HEIC/HEIF support, of course. But no use in conflating the two topics.

Hi,
I can't understand that there is no support for the most popular camera file type! You add all the new RAW versions but not for the HEIF/HEIC??? Is there even a good answer for this? I am talking about Lightroom CC Classic. It's really incomprehensible...

As far as I understand it, the conversion from HEIC to jpeg is done by iTunes on export, not by Lightroom on import. It's time Lightroom supported HEIC import.

Per the New York Times, May 29th, 2018:
"Microsoft is working on HEIC support for Windows 10, and its Windows 10 April 2018 Update now prompts you to visit its app store to download codec software that will open HEIC files."
Then from Microsoft's site linked within:
"The High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) has arrived for Windows 10 and the Photos app! ... We have heard your feedback that these features and the ability to share photos easily with other platforms is important to you. This release we are delivering essential viewing support (You cannot edit HEIF images in this release)."
So with underlying operating system support now being added for editing, this means we can likely expect full Lightroom application support on follow thereafter, hopefully later this year.

That's great news!
Do you also plan to add HEIC export capability at some point, or will the support be limited to reading files?

The issue isn't resolved. I've updated to the latest versions and I still get error message that the file type is unsupported or damaged.
