Lightroom won't shut down

For some reason, my Lightroom won't shut down after I've finished using it. When I try to shut down my Macbook, it won't because Lightroom is still open despite trying to close it. This leads to shuting down my Macbook completely from the on/off button. Has anyone else experienced this sort of issue? Would I have to uninstall my Lightroom and then reinstall it?

Hi there,

Sorry that Lightroom won't shut down when you attempt to close it on your Mac.

Which version of Lightroom are you using? Like Lightroom Classic 9.4 or Lightroom Desktop 3.4?

Also, what is the operating system you're running on your MacBook? (Like macOS Catalina 10.14.4)

Do you close the app with no sync activity pending in Lightroom? What happens if you launch the app and try to immediately close it?

Would you mind unchecking the option "use graphics processor" under the Preferences> Performance menu in Lightroom and let us know if the issue persists?

Also, it would be worth restoring the app preferences to default and see if that helps. See https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html#restore_preferences_to_def...

Thanks,

Akash

Hi Akash,

The Lightroom app that I'm using is the Desktop 3.4 version.

Macbook is running on the Catalina 10.15.6 update.

Lightroom won't shut down, doesn't matter if there is anything syncing or not.

I did uncheck the graphics processor option, Lightroom still won't shut down.

Regards

Dan

Yes, I am having this same issue. I can not force my computer to shut down to close it either, as Lightroom is alerting me that it's in use. Nothing is syncing, downloading, exporting, etc.

I am now unable to click Lightroom as well to use it. It give me the 'error' noise and is stationary on my desktop.

I have tried to delete the app as well as 'uninstall' in Creative Cloud. Both have been unsucessful.

Thanks for your help!

I do have the same problem, too.
My Mac uses MacOs Catalina.

Hope that there is a solution.

Hi All,

Sorry that Lightroom Desktop won't shut down.

Would you mind checking the steps below?

  1. Close the application from the Activity monitor.
  2. Click on Go > Utilities > Activity monitor
  3. Close all Adobe  processes
  4. Also give the permissions to all adobe folders
  5. Click on Go > Type ~/library/Application Support/
  6. Right click on Adobe > Get Info
  7. Unlock the window
  8. Give Read and write permissions. to all user accounts
  9. Also do it for User library too.
  10. Restart the machine.

Let us know the outcome.

Thanks,

Akash

I've completed the first 4 instructions. How do I get to Number 5?
