Lost photos in LR

Had an issue with my PC. Did a backup to external drive. Formatted PC did a re-install. LR loaded nicely however, many of my photos have not I believed been compiled. I can see something in the catalogs but can't see the photos. Is there a way that these can be recovered? I've lost several thousand photos. HELP!

We are sorry to hear about the missing images in Lightroom.

Would you mind sharing the version of Lightroom you are currently using by going to the Help menu > System info? Also, please share a screenshot of the Lightroom interface so that we can understand what is happening.

If the images show missing and you can see a blank space instead of the image thumbnail, you can follow the steps mentioned in the article to relink the images to the new location.
