Missing "number of files selected" in Lightroom (need for Drone AEB shooting panoramas)

Is there any way to display the number of photos "selected" when selecting big numbers of images in Lightroom or Lightroom CC? I'd like to get word to a developer about why it is important for Drone Photography. That option used to exist in Lightroom but it suddenly disappeared with an update.

Why this is important:  As a drone photographer who shoots bracketed panoramas, sometimes I'm selecting 27 to 56 images from a group of hundreds, to right click and choose "Merge to HDR Panorama".  It's not uncommon to grab a number of files that aren't a factor of 3 (3 bracketed images) and it doesn't render correctly and then you go back and try to more carefully grab images.  It was very helpful to have this option.
