I am developing a unity package and I will place it on unity asset store after it is completed. In this package I am using some of the mixamo animations to animate my characters but the animations are only a small part of the package. The question is that can I set a price on my asset and sell it or should I put it for free on asset store? I don't mind making some money from selling the asset but only if it is ligal and it is not in violation with mixamo terms. But if it is not ligal to sell it then can I at least publish it for free on unity asset store?

no you can't sell or give away free any Mixamo assets however you could sell your models and have images\ vids of this model doing Mixamo animations included as a demo

i.e, when people want Mixamo files they need to go get it from Mixamo, not you

This is a great question about using Mixamo animations in your Unity asset. Here's some info to help you decide:

  • Legality of Selling: According to Mixamo's licensing terms, you can definitely sell your Unity package that includes Mixamo animations, as long as the animations are just a part of your overall package and not the sole focus. Your package should offer additional value beyond the animations themselves.

  • Pricing Your Asset: Whether to sell or offer for free depends on the overall value your package brings. If your package offers unique functionality, combines Mixamo animations in a creative way, or includes additional features like code or prefabs, then selling it on the Asset Store is a viable option.

Here are some resources to consider:

  • Mixamo's Licensing Information: ([Link to Mixamo's Licensing Information]) (Double-check the latest terms to ensure compliance)

  • Pricing Strategies for Unity Assets: (There are many resources online, you can search for specific articles)

  • Alternative: Free Asset with Paid Upgrades: You could also consider offering a free base version of your package with the Mixamo animations and then provide paid upgrade options that include additional features or functionalities.

No matter which route you choose, make sure to clearly outline what's included in your package and abide by the Mixamo license.

By the way, if you're looking for additional resources to enhance your Unity project, we have a collection of unity templates (unity templates) that you might find helpful!

Good luck with your Unity asset and launching it on the Asset Store!
