Hey,

for a university project, where we relaunch a Motion Capturing Database similar to what Mixamo is, but where the university offers their own captured data, we would like to use three character models from Mixamo for the animation preview. The models will not be downloadable, only our own motion data. Would such use be possible under the free license?

Just curious ....

Which university?
Why not make your own character models (and make them available to students)?

If you're just using it to preview the mocap library, aren't the bones/joint previews enough?

Why three? Wouldn't a single stand-in work for everything? (color for multiple actors)

University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Germany. The option to switch between three characters is one of our prof's requirements and making our own models exceeds the scope of the project. I get your point, though 😄

to answer your question yes this is fine as you are not allowing students to download the actual characters unless they goto Mixamo for them... in effect you are making little vids for little kids 😉

I'd agree that it'd be okay as long as you aren't charging students for the use of the models (geometry).

The only difficult interpretation of the EULA for "model use" might arise if you sold the entire library/catalog system to the university (or department) with those models as part of the mocap library. In effect, you would be selling the models (geometry), not the rendered result of the geometry.

Additionally, the university's policy on IP (intellectual property) may produce different conflicts.  When developing work for the university, it's a good idea to make sure all of the licensing issues are completed. The university may have an office dedicated to helping students get it sorted out.
