Adobe Muse EOL announcement - Alternatives to Adobe Muse?

Hi all,

For those of you that haven't received the email around the Adobe Muse EOL, see the FAQ Product Announcement that tries to answer some the common questions around the announcement including the reasons behind the decision.

Before we proceed with discussing alternatives, the Muse application will continue to open on your computer. You will be able to continue to edit existing or create new websites with the application. Adobe Muse will continue to be supported until May 20, 2019 and will deliver compatibility updates with the Mac and Windows OS or fix any bugs that might crop up when publishing Muse sites to the web. However, it is quite possible that web standards and browsers will continue to change after Adobe stops support for the application.

While there is no 1:1 replacement for Adobe Muse at this stage, the FAQ link above provides some alternatives. Also, Adobe is making our own investment in DIY website creation and welcomes all Muse customers to join our upcoming pre-release program for a new format that will be introduced this year as part of Adobe Spark. That being said, I would like to open up this discussion for discussing other solutions and migration paths. It would be ideal if we could focus our efforts on the topic at hand.

I am not touting Spark to be a replacement or the best migratory path for Muse sites. It is one of the solutions that could work for a subset of Muse users in the future. We will know only when we have the ability to use it.

Will Spark produce standalone websites, that can run on any server or will it be a service run by adobe like it is now?

You CAN NOT use SPARK as any type of alternative to MUSE. Period, End of story. Spark is at best a supplemental product.

Shame on Adobe (once again) for F*&$ing over their loyal users.

Then how can you even talk Spark Preran? Spark is a limited DIY one page template and has nothing on Adobe Muse, nothing! Unless it is being totally overhauled and why does Adobe now think that us "Designers" are now just template addicts? This is not directed at you Preran but at this point Adobe DISGUSTS me for their blatant disregard in how they have gone about this announcement/action! (taking away an essential product) while constantly price gouging our subscription!

Adobe is like a headless chicken running into walls and without answers that mean anything useful for it's customers. The truth is Adobe pulled the plug on a good app with nothing to replace it. Usually in business you don't EOL something without a suitable replacement and chance leaving your clients in the abyss, frustrated and angry. Adobe you just stepped in a public relations turd, again.

Hi Preran. I too didn't know of Spark but just took some time to try it out. It is actually insulting to suggest Spark as alternative to Muse. Please take half an hour to try it out. It is difficult to engage in conversation around software you have no idea about.

It is very insulting!!! Here Adobe barracks for the Creatives and then suggests to us Designers a cookie-cutter arrangement which allows for a single website page and footer Spark advertising! Is this the best we can expect of Adobe nowadays? Disgusted!

Sorry Preran, If you don have  knowledge on Spark at all, why are then suggesting it as an alternative to Muse?

I become more and more reluctant to trust on Adobe aside its core products for any functionality at all.

I've recreated all of my Muse sites to WordPress using Elementor Pro as the pagebuilder. I described it in more detail earlier. It's really quite enjoyable, once you get the hang of it.

Adobe Spark is just a glorified online newsletter and has nothing do to with web design/development!

Sparkle on the other hand has potential and is a rather solid offering if you are looking at a free-canvas approach (similar to Muse) in creating websites rather than the Bootstrap cookie-cutter approach with most DIY web design builders. I managed to create this - www.thelittlepicnicco.com with Sparkle and the SEO functionality backed-in is really good when I compare it to how arduous it was with Muse.

Depending on what you need to do,  Adobe Portfolio might work, especially now that you can build multiple webs ites with it.   And Portfolio conveniently supports custom domain name purchases from Namecheap.

Yes, Spark creates beautiful pages, but the lack of ability to download the source code to allow a user to host it on their own domain means it's only good for small businesses who aren't hosting their own content.  It makes pretty newsletters and social posts.

I view Adobe Spark and Adobe Portfolio as companions to one's main website in much the same way that a blog or social media channels are companion sites.

There´s only musegrid.com , who offer a widget to create quite beautiful pages with spark on a muse site.

The downside is really the working with spark is only for one site. So if you chose one theme/layout/font and whatsoever there´s no way to do something else for a new site without loosing the "old" site. So spark is kind of funny and not professional for creating websites.

This is an insane move to make - Adobe has corrupted the community just to line the pockets of investors. What ever happened to true innovation? Muse is an amazing tool and I have recommended it to many friends who have in turn bought a subscription for this product alone. After hearing the news 3 of my friends have said they are now cancelling their subscriptions. Adobe has made a poor move in discontinuing a product that has true potential. My love for the company is now slowly turning into hatred and disgust. Its a sad day for designers and artists.

Pretan, Spark it too lightweight. The most like for like middleweight and clean code app like Muse, is Webflow. I run my business based around Muse, no new websites will be leaving our studio via Muse given its non existent future.

So...we business owners need to make a decision pretty rapidly. Do we retrain in Webflow? Or will Spark move into the middleweight arena? If it is Preran, we need answers and we need them now as clients need projects out the door...So either we ditch Adobe or you keep us middleweight customers...
