Closing Muse ? Are you serious over there ?

Helloooooo! Over there, are you listening to me?

I think you have to take a close look to stopping support of the Muse project.

We have spent a lot of time learning how to use Muse, we have created a large number of customers with websites through Mouse, and we continue.

If you respect your customers, you should think again.

Muse is not Flash to have security issues or its works not supported by browsers. Although the flash continues, the name is changed to Animate.

Please respect us and continue the good work on Muse.

God bless America.

Hi all,

Apologize for your frustration. I understand that the transition to another software will not be without challenges. Having said that, Adobe Muse will continue to be around and supported for another year. You can continue using Adobe Muse beyond that as long as its code is supported by web standards and browsers, and for as long as your OS supports it. If you have hosted your site on BC, you have a year to migrate it to a third-party hosting provider.

Honestly I am not surprised, and think Muse was a pretty poor tool. There are many better options out there, (like pinegrow that actually let you see and adjust the code) and really in this day and age it should be critical to learn HTML, CSS and Javascript. You are not a web designer without some proficiently in that. It is also not hard, youtube is full of thousands of tutorials, you can use great code editors like Atom or Visual Studio Code for free.

If you are going to design websites, and dont know the basics of HTML, CSS and Javascript then you will just be left behind. Even if you use tools like Muse you should still be learning to code. In fact, you are not very valuable as a designer these days with a million online builders. If you want to survive in the industry you should also know the basics of back-end development, such as PHP, or a Javascript framework. If you know the basics then you dont have to worry about these "visual tool shortcuts" if they stop you have the skills to replace them. I used Muse when it first came out. It was great for single page quick sites, or for making a quick mock-up for a client (mostly what I used it for). But I definitely know not to depend on any shortcut.

Also keep in mind that the sites you have built will last quite a long time still. HTML does not have a lot of breaking changes so your existing sites can last for years. And in web development that is pretty good. This is an industry where standards and methods change rapidly, if you are not prepared to learn and grow, time to look for another way to make money.

Some us are not web designers.  We just want to whip up our site and move on.  It's not a career choice its a supplement to what we actually do for a living.  So, WYSIWYG is a useful tool that is faster to learn than coding.

The majority of the people complaining are saying there business relies on it, they keep saying they have multiple sites created for clients. If you just have one site that is your own then a year should be plenty of time ti whip one up with another visual tool.

Well what a load of crap Design ie Art & Design is not based on a code, interface design is a very specialist area and yes you may want to ask someone to code a particular design but it does not follow thata coder can design an interface please learn the art of design first not code. Adobe I thought understood this that is why all the other programmes they develop are so useful for DESIGNER's ie Graphics.

They now have a Monopoly on the professional programmes people use since they bought out Macromedia Director the programme they used to design PHOTOSHOP they have controlled the marketplace.I am in the group that would now advise anyone to drop them for free software or if you have a MAC just use what comes free and I am also seriously considering taking them to court myself for a refund on my subscription for that last 2 years and all the time I have spent mastering MUSE.

Kind Regards Mark Wells

They definitely do not have the market in coding. I dont know any people who write code with Dreamweaver, it really is not a great program, bloated, slow, sloppy. There are lots of other software choices in coding, I use Atom, and it is free.

Some people get it... some don't. Coders are saying... "See I told you so!" Well guess what, they were right - Adobe could not finish what they started and now all of the Coders may be a bit happier. Designers were coming in and providing a reasonably good and higher designed web design with ease.

You know, before the advent of "Desk Top Publishing" I worked on a Compugraphic Typesetting unit. When I looked at the screen to typeset (in the days when we still did Paste-up, layout, PMTs, Rubylith, Metal Plates, Negatives, Stripping...etc...) all I saw on my screen was Code. DRV stood for "Draw vertical rule", F111 let me chose the Helvetica font, FI111 Helvetica Italic.... and so on. Well soon came the Mac and Graphic Interface (YAY!!!). No more coding to design - FREEDOM.

I thought I saw the same innovation  happening in web design. Freedom to design without staring at code, and it will people... it will... Nobody likes to do a lot of work that is not necessary to design. I don't miss Letraset Type, or Galleys of Typesetting on Film to cut and paste... and I won't miss typing code in HTML when that day comes. Adobe made smart moves in the Design industry, but they are not the only ones out there. I hope someone swoops in and gobbles them up, like they did to Quark, and Aldus. Don't think it can't happen. History tells us it will.

I'm not happy about this decision at all and if Adobe doesn't reverse their decision on closing Muse I'll be ending my subscription with Adobe for good. I am not moving my websites to Dreamweaver, even though I do have some coding experience. I'll forgo the use of Photoshop and instead use Paint Shop Pro or another photo editing program.

For everyone else, this may have already been discussed, but what third-party alternatives are there for Muse? Someone mentioned "pinegrow", so I'll have to check that one out. But wondering what else is out there that is a WYSIWYG application?

I checked out Pinegrow 4 and it's not for me. But I did find RapidWeaver and that one looks promising. I'm going to check it out tonight when I get home.

There's another one called Webflow that is being talked about. See this video: To our friends and colleagues using Adobe Muse - YouTube

They certainly don't (at least to the best of anyone's knowledge). My reply was in regards to QuantumChicken (Eris) wondering aloud (okay, typing) about forgoing Photoshop.

I firmly believe in having options (look what's happened to Muse users who bought into it, lock, stock and barrel).

I use CC programs at work, latest versions. I also use Affinity products, Pixelmator, and an old copy of the other program

Adobe killed-off, Fireworks.

I understand.  But this discussion is all about Muse EOL and Muse alternatives.  We're not discussing Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks here.

I agree.  I think  that putting all one's  eggs in a single basket is a very poor business decision.  That's why I advocate that all web designers work with tools that use native HTML, CSS and JS files which can be ported into any code editor of choice:   DW, Brackets, Pinegrow, BlueGriffon, Atom, Wappler, etc....

The same is not true for apps that use proprietary files like Muse, Sparkle, Blocs and others...  Those files cannot be opened in anything other than the app that created them.   That's one of the prices designers pay for all that ease of use.    The second of course is limited features and the flexibility to work with source code when it's necessary.

Nancy, the Muse issue has made me question ALL the Adobe products. I am looking at switching to alternatives for all of them. Quark Express for DTP, Affinity for vector & photo, and Wordpress and/or Webflow/Pinegrow for web.

I suppose if you work solo and don't need to collaborate with other Adobe CC users, that might work for you.

Muse is the main reason I subscribe to Creative Cloud. So there is a good chance I'll end my subscription when its gone as otherwise it's too expensive every month without it. Plus, I can't see why Muse should be ended anyway, its only been around for a few years and even though its a great product it can take time for even a great product to catch on. Adobe say its because everyone is using moving towards Wordpress, but Muse is a great tool for creating Wordpress templates of a much higher quality than can be done just in Wordpress. Best re-think Adobe. It's decisions like this that can give a competitor all the advantage they need to impact your market.

This is not the first time that Adobe has pulled the rug out from under its client base. Back in the 90s, I believe, Adobe had a wonderful app called, "Press Ready." This app produced beautiful color proofs that matched the traditional Matchprint proofs one could get from their commercial printers in all respects by using one's in-house inkjet printer. I swear that in those days I made as much money printing my own proofs for all sorts of print collateral and advertising as I did from actually doing the design work. Then Adobe just pulled the plug on it one day with basically no explanation. That really ruined my studio's workflow. I was plenty pissed off.

I am throughly disgusted with this kind of irresponsible behavior. And particularly am soured on Adobe that they just did this with Muse. It seems to be a chronic and inexcusable behavior with them and I have lost confidence with them for this and many other issues. Who ever the managers are that make these idiotic decisions should be fired and replaced with competent individuals that understand the value of maintaining their good brand name and listening to end users' input before making these cataclysmic and witless moves.

I signed the petition this morning and encourage everyone here to do the same:
