Hey, I'm pretty new to muse and I'm trying to work out if it's possible to create something like you see on this site:

http://legacyvoice.co.uk/

I want a form that captures the data before allowing a download of a PDF. Is there a widget for this or something I can do?

Thanks so much for any help!

Something like this very simple to achieve „out of the box“ (sorry for that, Nancy 😞

  • Place a form widget, which collects the data, you need.
  • Create a new page, which contains a download button for the PDF by placing an element of your choice and using the „Hyperlink“ command in Muse‘s upper control strip to link it to your PDF document.
  • Make sure, that this newly created page doesn‘t appear in your menus by right clicking the page icon in plan mode and choosing the menu option „Exclude Page from M

Simple things are rarely as simple as people think.

What will the form data be used for?

What if the user enters a bogus email, will they still receive the download?

Why not just give people  a direct link to the PDF file?

What does your server support in the way of server-side scripts and databases?

  • Now open the configuration panel of you form by clicking onto the small blue arrow icon top right of the widget.
  • Configure the „After Sending“ option to jump to your PDF page.

(The wording of the commands might be slightly different, because I am not sitting in front of my computer. Sorry for that!)

But what if the OP's server doesn't support PHP scripts?

What if they want to collect data and store it in an online database or send it to a mailing list service like Mailchimp?

And what if the email address given is fake?

I am very reluctant to suggest an out of the box soluiton that might not be right for the job.

Don’t worry! In this case he certainly will ask again.

I bet, he doesn’t intend to use a backend data base.
