I've heard that development of muse will stop after the 20/03/2020, but we will continue to use it

But what about "in browser editing" ? Will it still work after ? Because if it is NO, how will do all my clients ?

Thanks

As long as you have hosted on another provider than BC, IBE keeps on working.

Depending on browser and OS it will keep on working – not forever but for quite a long time.

Best Regards,

Uwe

Hi Uwe

Please can you help me?

My client is unable to login to inbrowserediting. The site is hosted independently. Is there a problem suddenly?

Please see screen below for error message we both get. We are in two different countries.

Thanks

Lauren

IBE is discontinued since August 2020. This was announced in 2018 as well but I must admit I missed it, too.

Anyway - no IBE anymore. If you move your site to PineGrow and then mark the areas which should allow CMS - and purchase one license for the client, you may enable CMS in the easiest way, but of course you have to buy PG (no subscription, somehow manage to deal with PG (test it for 7 days).

All other ways might be better, take more time, need a learning curve as well, …

Kind Regards,

Uwe

Thats strange as I found this on the Product announcement page:

Important Update: Business Catalyst End-of-Life Extended

As the situation with COVID-19 unfolds it is clear we are in unprecedented times which has created profound uncertainty worldwide. We understand that for many clients their Business Catalyst site underpins their business and we’d like to try to help avoid further disruption where we can.

We remain committed to our goal to discontinue the platform, but to try to alleviate the stress as we all come to terms with working under these new circumstances, we are announcing an extension to Business Catalyst End-of-Life date by six months. The new end of life date is now 26 September 2021, after which date the service will be taken offline.

Just to clarify.  Business Catalyst service is separate from Muse and InBrowser Editing.  Muse and IBE are dead.

The termination of BC servers was indeed extended to Sept 2021 on account of Covid-19.

The development of Muse has already stopped as of 2018.1. There will be continuing support for Muse until 2020 but there will be no new features, only patches to keep it working on Windows and MacOS.

As Uwe says, IBE will work after the cut-off date (now 2021 for Business Catalyst) but may fail if there are significant changes to web standards and PHP (which the IBE system runs on).

I’m not even seeing bugs being addressed in a timely manner. Not that they ever did. I know their is a bigger reaction from Adobe employees with a post like this but for crying out loud they should of taken half that energy and put it towards fixing things!

Flash and Fireworks were an entirely different situation. Muse was different in the fact that the new users of this app were largely designers with little or no knowledge of web developmen. Many built entire web businesses on this platform. Many believed, it was Adobe afterall, we can trust a brand that large.

I watched Muse and it’s development over the last six years or so. I saw ACP’s devote immense amounts of their time for free to help others. Even if some of them could be real jerks they did help a lot of people. They became the face of Adobe Muse for many.

I would think most of the graphic design people spent considerable time and effort learning design principles.

Muse lured many into ignoring good web practices. Maybe it was innocent maybe it was arrogant. Be very careful about using web tools that are on dedicated servers like W/O, Webflow and others. Portability is important to many businesses. Muse was at least exportable as html (terrible code) so you could put it up on most hosting platforms.

Its too bad that so many were using BC.

Anyway, look into Dreamweaver extensions and templates. You can learn some basic coding and styling along the way and still be able to build websites. You will learn some important things too.
