is it possible to adjust the height of muse accordion widget cells? This example has an accordion within an accordion - i have had no success adjusting either or one independently.

Yes, that should be possible.
First please try replacing all the system fonts applied in the accordion to web safe fonts.
Now you should be able to select the individual accordions and resize them accordingly.

The height of an accordion’s title bar depends
• On font size
• Height of the bar (adjustable in the "Transform" panel, and
• the values of "Padding" and "Gutter", which are adjustable in the "Spacing" panel.
Changing these parameters, allows very small title heights:
